Sponsored Lodging Welcome Guide

This Welcome Guide contains all of the information you may need during your stay on Georgia Tech’s campus. Please review and refer to this guide to answer any questions you may have.

All SLDP guests are assigned a Resident Assistant (RA). An RA is a Georgia Tech student staff member (SSM) who is responsible for the management of halls and buildings, including advising and counseling individuals and groups, planning programs, enforcing hall policies, and managing administrative functions. Your designated RA will reach out to you shortly after move-in to review community guidelines.

For additional housing assistance, please contact the Office of Conference Services.

Sprinklers

Sprinkler heads are not to be tampered with or used to hang personal items. Signs are posted by every sprinkler as a friendly reminder. Disregarding these policies may result in discharging a sprinkler that pours out 250 gallons of water per minute. This will flood your apartment and surrounding apartments. Georgia Tech and the Office of Conference Services are not responsible for the loss or damages you may incur as a result of a sprinkler discharged due to resident negligence.

A resident who knowingly causes a sprinkler to activate may be subject to eviction.

Collective Liability

Residents are responsible for the condition of their room and all shared spaces. Should damages of Georgia Tech property occur and the Georgia Institute of Technology determines that it is unable to assign liability for such damage, Student shall share equally with other building/floor/unit/suite residents the cost of cleaning, repair or replacement of any Georgia Institute of Technology property in common areas of the building/floor/unit/suite including but not limited to hallways, lounges and laundry rooms. Georgia Institute of Technology at its sole discretion shall determine the amount of any costs for cleaning, loss, or damage and shall notify Student of such charges. There are no appeals to a collective liability charge.

Pets

Fish in aquariums no larger than 10 gallons are the only permissible pet in the residential facilities at Georgia Tech. An individual found to have any non-permissible pet within the residence will be fined and may be subject to eviction.

Service animals are welcomed at Georgia Tech. To ensure swift accommodation for you and your documented service animal, please notify the Office of Conference Services immediately so arrangements may be made prior to your check-in date.

4. Exit to the nearest stairwell.

Safety Steps
Housing’s Safety Steps

For those living on campus, the Department of Housing takes steps to ensure that certain needs are met, among them the need for safety and security. These steps include keeping the outside doors locked 24 hours a day and making sure a student staff member (RA) is on duty in each area whenever the Community Offices are closed (8 p.m. – 8 a.m. during the week and 24 hours a day on the weekends and holidays).

Your Safety Steps

Developing simple habits from the moment you arrive on campus can reduce the likelihood of problems and headaches in the future.

  1. Lock your doors and carry your keys whenever you are away from your room.
  2. Do not prop any exterior doors, or allow them to be propped open. This is convenient for thieves. To prevent this, all doors have alarms that will go off after 30 seconds.
  3. Keep a record of the serial numbers on your television, computers, stereos, bike, etc and register these items with the Georgia Tech Police Department. It is helpful to take pictures of these items. You can find more information about registering your items at www.police.gatech.edu/registration
  4. Protect items such as credit and debit cards. Do not write your pin number on your cards.
  5. Report theft. If you have any valuables stolen, you can take action. First, file a report with the Georgia Tech Police Department by calling: 404-894-2500. You can give them serial numbers and copies of pictures of your valuables, or let them know that items are registered to their database. Notify your RA who can then fill out an Incident report so that it is on record with the Department of Housing.
  6. Do not leave clothes unattended in the laundry room for an extended period of time. Residents will be sharing a laundry facility with many other people. The potential for having someone accidentally pick up clothes that don’t belong to them is fairly high.

Internet information for connecting your devices can be found below.

Wi-Fi Information
Wireless Access is included in your residence hall. If your school uses “Eduroam” you should be able to log in using your school’s credentials (Check Here). If you’re coming from a school that does not use eduroam, you will be able to use the free guest WiFi by clicking “GTvisitor” wifi.
Wired Internet

Please contact us if you need wired internet instructions

  1. Connect your computer to the data jack (usually bottom jack) using a Cat 5 Ethernet Cable
  2. Go to start.gatech.edu in a browser. Follow the instructions to register your computer.
